Rev-Trac Insights User Guide

Rev-Trac Insights User Guide

Introduction

Rev-Trac Insights was rebranded from Salt when Rev-Trac was relaunched as Rev-Trac Platinum.

From version 8.2.2, Insights added more tools which include migration reports and migration safety check utilities.

Landscape management apps, developer utilities and object repository apps

All apps (excluding Cold Case app under landscape management) help to identify:

  • Transportable (that is, non-local) versionable objects created in the customer Y or Z namespaces. Technically, such objects are said to occupy the /0CUST/ namespace.

  • Versionable objects in any Producer namespaces defined in your systems (if your Insights administrator has configured Insights to be aware of these).

  • Versionable objects in any namespaces that have been modified using the SAP Modification Assistant (if these modifications are currently in effect).

If the SAP Modification Assistant currently modifies an object in any namespace, Rev-Trac Insights monitors a substantial part of that object's hierarchy, both in the system where the modification has taken place, and in all other systems in the same Insights landscape.

Cold Case app sheds light on the status of both customizing and ABAP development changes. The app is transport-centered, rather than object-centered.

Change flow between systems

Some apps assume changes originate in a particular system and then flow to other systems in your landscape(s) in a predictable order.

Your Insights administrator modeled these change flows when configuring Insights.

The modeling of change flow in Insights is rather broad. One system in a landscape is defined as the source of changes. Other systems are defined as either intermediate or destination systems. An Insights landscape may contain multiple intermediate systems and multiple destination systems.

Insights assumes that changes flow from the source system to intermediate systems and then to destination systems, but does not attempt to model the flow of changes from one intermediate system to another, or from one destination system to another.

System snapshots

For some apps (eg Landscape management apps), you are provided with an option to select from a list of SAP system(s) whose data you wish to inspect.

In practice, you may find that the list sometimes includes time-stamped entries that represent snapshots of a system created automatically (as configured by the Insights administrator) to capture a precise description of the state of that system at a moment in time (for example, before the system is refreshed).

If you choose to run a Rev-Trac Insights app against such a snapshot, be aware that you are not necessarily seeing the current, live state of this system.
